Ashcroft Unfairly Under Siege by Partisans

To put it simply, John Ashcroft is the target of vicious partisan politics. Any reasonable individual can review his record and they will come to the same conclusion. This allegation that he is racist because he didn’t support one judge’s appointment is ridiculous.

While it is true that he objected to the appointment of one African-American judge his reasoning had nothing to do with race. He objected because he felt the man was an activist and the record shows the judge did take social opinion into account in some of his rulings. That is the mark of a poor judge. Ashcroft opposed appointing poor judges regardless of race. The truth is that Senator Ashcroft supported the appointments of quite a number of African-American judges.

Now that we have established that Mr. Ashcroft isn’t a racist, why is he being attacked by left wing extremists? It is because he is not in favor of abortion. Last I checked it was not a crime to have an opinion. This should not preclude him from being U.S. Attorney General. The job description of an attorney general does require that they must agree with all laws. It simply requires them to enforce all laws.

It is undisputed that as Attorney General of Missouri John Ashcroft enforced all laws regardless of his opinion. Lets quit the partisan attacks and give this man the respect he deserves.
