More Lies from the Left

I am absolutely dumbfounded as to the length some liberals will go to blatantly slander the character of a good man simply because he is conservative. I watched the news tonight with disgust as Maxine Waters stood in front of her constituents and lied to them about the record of John Ashcroft. She stated, on national television, that John Ashcroft opposed every minority appointment to the bench. She further stated that John Ashcroft opposed all civil rights laws. I cannot understand what motivates her to make this stuff up.

The truth is that as Senator, John Ashcroft supported 26 out of 28 African-Americans that were nominated by the Clinton/Gore Administration and confirmed by the Senate. Of the two nominees that Ashcroft did not support, one was withdrawn and Ronnie White was defeated.

Why did Ashcroft oppose Ronnie White? Ronnie White was weak on crime. Ronnie White was on a mission to overturn death penalty cases and he was out of control.

In one case, [Missouri v. Johnson] Justice Ronnie White alone opposed the death penalty for James R. Johnson, who was convicted of stalking and brutally murdering a sheriff, two deputies and a sheriff deputy’s wife in 1991. The wife died in her living room in front of her family. Johnson confessed to the crimes in detail and received four separate death sentences. Ronnie White opposed the death penalty in this and other similarly heinous cases.

Here are some more facts about John Ashcroft’s record. In 1997 Ashcroft co-sponsored The Violence Against Women Act. In 1988 Governor Ashcroft signed into law Missouri’s first Hate-Crimes bill. While Ashcroft was governor, Missouri became one of the first states to recognize Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. He appointed The Dr. Martin Luther King State Celebration Commission. He also established an award in honor of the African-American educator George Washington Carver.

This is just a sample of John Ashcroft’s record. The total record is vast and impressive. What is Maxine Water’s record? She has become quite an expert at misinforming and riling her constituents. That is just irresponsible.
