PALMDALE
- Doughnut lovers will have their choice of the kreme of the crop if the city
Planning Commission grants a conditional use permit for a Krispy Kreme doughnut
shop on Rancho Vista Boulevard (Avenue P) at Country Club Drive.
The
commission will discuss the matter Thursday with representatives of Great Circle
Family Foods of Los Angeles.
City
planning staff has recommended approval of a CUP for the shop but denial of
Great Circle's request to erect a free-standing monument sign.
Under
a specific plan already in place for the Palmdale Promenade shopping center,
where the shop would be built, six monument signs are to be allowed.
Five
of those signs already have been erected, and the developer of the center,
Sierra Development Group, is reserving the last sign so it can be shared by the
firms developing the last three off-street sites, according to a staff report on
the matter.
Allowing
Krispy Kreme to exceed the number of signs allowed would grant it a privilege
not enjoyed by other outlets, according to associate planner Richard Kite.
Because
of the shop's location, it already would have maximum exposure to traffic on
Rancho Vista Boulevard, Kite said in his report.
If
built, the 4,000-square-foot doughnut shop would be near the northbound exit
from, and southbound entrance to, the Antelope Valley Freeway at Rancho Vista
Boulevard.
The
shop, with 24-hour service and a drive-up window, also would be near the city's
two new Marriott hotels.
The
commission will discuss issuing a permit for the shop when it meets at 7 p.m. in
the chambers of the Palmdale City Council, 38300 Sierra Highway, Suite B.
Also
under review for future construction at the Palmdale Promenade is a new
Wienerschnitzel outlet, according to the staff report. No tenant has been
identified for the last available parcel at the shopping center.
